4.0 out of 5 stars - A review of reviews
January 3, 2020
This book is a compilation of several book reviews Maurice A. Williams wrote over the years. Williams has read quite a large selection of very interesting tomes, focusing heavily on historical nonfiction and biographies, and within his reviews he makes a solid case for how his faith opposes some viewpoints therein. I was very impressed by his willingness to read such a wide variety of texts, even when he knew he may disagree with them.
If I had one complaint, it was that he spent an inordinate amount of paragraphs arguing against Carl Sagan, which is unfortunate as Sagan is no longer with us to discuss back. Cosmos was the only real astrophysics-based book in this collection of reviews, which is unfortunate. I felt more could be said about space and science without commenting on the dead or his widow. That’s just my opinion and it was something that stood out to me.
Although it feels strange to be reviewing a collection of reviews, I truly enjoyed this and learned a lot about texts I would otherwise have ignored at a bookstore, and even discovered some new ones that I may put on my reading wish list. Some great reviews in here!
